Happy Thanksgiving!

Give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

I am full of gratitude today as we celebrate Thanksgiving in spite of the difficulties in the past few months.  A weak economy, a difficult election, world unrest and widespread disasters may have taken a toll on the nation, yet we still live in a great country with opportunities for everyone.  We are blessed to be able to celebrate Thanksgiving with comforts, food and camaraderie.

I feel privileged to write Apartment Prepper and I always look forward to sharing my day with you.   My thanks to all our sponsors that help us maintain the site.  I appreciate all our readers for taking the time to visit Apartment Prepper.  Your continued interest and support mean a lot to me.

I wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving!

Add this to your “Why be Prepared” List

As if there weren’t already enough reasons to be prepared, I just read today that Foreign hackers targeted U.S. water plant in apparent malicious cyber attack, expert says

According to various articles, foreign hackers caused some damage to a U.S. water plant by accessing the software company’s database, and using it to damage a water pump.

A DHS spokesman did stress that “there is no credible corroborated data that indicates a risk to critical infrastructure entities or a threat to public safety.”  However, U.S. officials have previously warned about the risks of cyber attacks on infrastructure.

It does not take a whole lot of imagination to think about what if there is an interruption of service in a utility such as electricity or water.  This shows there is vulnerability in infrastructure and should not be taken lightly.  If this story makes you feel just a tad vulnerable, then all you can do is get serious about being prepared and step up your efforts:  have a backup water purifying method, pick up a few more gallons of water this weekend, or empty out those soda bottles and refill them with drinking water.   Stock up on batteries, and have backup lighting and cooking methods.  Buy a few more canned goods this weekend.

It’s the weekend before Thanksgiving and there are lots of food sales going on.  Now would be a good time to review the store flyers and figure out what’s on sale and buy multiples of canned goods or instant foods that your family eats:  canned corn, green beans, instant mashed potatoes, instant stuffing, canned ham…  The sale prices will likely only last until Thanksgiving so stock up now.

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It is a day of celebration with no pressure to buy gifts, put on a costume or be the perfect host if you don’t feel like it. Sure, you may have to cook, but if you choose, you can go celebrate at someone else house. Adopting a preparedness mindset I have become aware of all the things that can fail in our system. But I am grateful for things that have not failed. We have a roof over our heads, we turn on the lights and they go on, get in our cars that have gas, find a variety of food at the grocery and enjoy a bountiful Thanksgiving meal with family and friends.

I also want to express my appreciation to all my readers; this is a work in progress for me and I thank you for your support.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
