Monday Musings 5/11/2015: Because You Can Never have Enough Water

This post is by Bernie Carr,

Welcome to another Monday Musings, where we share interesting links about all things preparedness, as well as updates on the blog.

First the blog updates…

Re-evaluating our emergency supplies  This week we are checking all our emergency supplies, and getting ready for hurricane season which starts June 1st.  Finding all sorts of interesting things, and I will post about them in a later article.

Adding to our water preps  The biggest thing we did this week was add the Camelback hydration reservoir packs to the bug out backpacks.  The backpacks have a compartment for water reservoir packs, and the opening for the hose attachment.  We had planned to supplement our water from last summer’s off-grid adventure  where we learned you’d best stock up on water while you can.

We also ordered a 3-pack of the Berkey Sport Bottles from The Berkey Guy  I’d take these with me wherever I go, and keep one at work as well.

This week’s giveaway  Don’t forget to enter the giveaway for The Survival Savvy Family by Julie Sczerbinski.  There are lots of ways to enter, all of them easy!

  1. I definitely need to store more water. For us and our 4 legged friends, especially with the warmer weather my dog drinks a lot more.

    • Hi JL, Now’s a good time to supplement your water storage. The pets do add to the water needs, I noticed our dog is drinking a lot more now that the weather is getting warmer. Thanks for stopping by!

  2. My wife and I invested in Water Blocks. They’re durable water storage, and stack securely in a number of ways. We now have a month of water (each) in our tiny apartment, and you’d never know they were there. I’d also like one of those bathtub bladders before hurricane season kicks in. Ive seen a few, but don’t know which one to get yet. Any info is welcomed.
Also consider rain capture methods. I already have a make-shift method of capturing rain water for them most dire of emergencies. All I needed was a small tarp, 2 walking sticks, and a container.
Think “worst case scenario” and your imagination will help you find a solution 😀

    • Hey Joseph P, I really like the Water Bob, and we fill one up when a hurricane is coming. Amazon has a pretty good price on them. It’s one time use, but the water lasts a long time. I like your rain capture idea, we can do that in the balcony. Thanks for the comment!

  3. here comes hurricane season…..oh joy. I live in a small apartment on the gulf coast and have about 40 gallons of water stored right now. I am planning on putting up more this month. the water blocks look like a good idea as far as storage is concerned. im also finally going to get a water bob for the tub.
thanks for all the great info.

    • Hi maggi, That is great you have 40 gallons stored so far. I have a few of those stackable water containers and have the water bob, which we fill up when a hurricane is imminent. Glad you like the blog. Thanks for the comment.
