One for the Summer Reading List: American Apocalypse

Summertime is a great time to catch up on reading.  I just finished reading a book of fiction, American Apocalypse:  The Collapse Begins by author Nova.  It is the first book in a series of four books.  I read it in two days; I was quite riveted with the story. The book centers around a young man who finds himself homeless, trying to stay alive in a suburb of Washington, D.C.   Much of the country has fallen into anarchy following […]

First Reviews of The Prepper’s Pocket Guide

I am excited to post there are now a couple of reviews of my new book, The Prepper’s Pocket Guide.  A while back I had mentioned there were a few review copies available and several readers had kindly offered to review the book.  The copies started to arrive in the last week or so, while some are yet to be received. Reader C.F. Hill recently posted a review on Amazon under Customer Reviews.  C.F. Hill is a Top Ten Reviewer […]

A Reader Told Me about this Book: The Walk by Lee Goldberg

One of the things I like about blogging is learning new stuff from readers’ comments.  A few weeks ago reader John N. recommended The Walk by Lee Goldberg.  Thanks John!  The book is about a guy who walks across Los Angeles after The Big Earthquake, the challenges he faces, various mishaps and what he ultimately figures out about his life. The Walk is work of fiction, but anyone who has experienced an earthquake can relate.  It’s not a “survival” book; […]

A Book Review of Getting Out Alive: 13 Deadly Scenarios and How Others Survived

This post is by Bernie Carr, apartmentprepper.com When I first heard about the subject of Scott B. Williams new book, Getting Out Alive:  13 Deadly Scenarios and How Others Survived, I wondered how I would feel, reading about these deadly scenarios.  Although I have started to prepare for potential emergencies, I am someone who avoids thinking about scary situations.  As it turns out, I had nothing to worry about, as this book is written in a way that shows […]

Book Review: How to Live on Wheat 3rd Edition

I received a reviewer’s copy of How to Live on Wheat, 3rd Edition by John Hill, which was released December 2010.  I must admit I had not heard of this book before, and likely would not have read it:  in my mind, “living on wheat” seems like one of those “advanced” activities, far above my preparedness skills. As it turns out, I am happy to admit I was wrong about my initial impression.  Live on Wheat has a lot of […]

I Read The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse

I finished reading The Modern Survival Manual:  Surviving the Economic Collapse by Fernando “Ferfal” Aguirre.  He runs the Surviving in Argentina Blog (I don’t know him personally, just giving credit.) An economic collapse is one our our fears; this is a book written by someone who has already experienced it.  Argentina, a once prosperous country, went through its economic collapse in 2001 and it has never been the same since.  Mr. Aguirre describes in detail the aftermath of the […]
