So Very Thankful for Something We Normally Take for Granted

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:4-7

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. But this Thanksgiving is even more special to me than normal. That’s because earlier this year, I wasn’t even sure if I’d be around to enjoy Thanksgiving 2021. I was very ill with COVID-19 pneumonia earlier this year, back in May. I was not in the “high risk” category, no chronic health issues; yet I went from being an active person to a critically ill patient in just a few days. At my worst time, I couldn’t breath and was not even able to breath properly with regular oxygen; I had to be placed on hi-flo oxygen. I did not even have enough energy to walk to the bathroom. I wrote about my ordeal and recovery in a series of articles starting here.

It took several months to recover and finally be able to breath normally without being attached to an oxygen tank. During my darkest days in the hospital, all I could do was pray that I would get better. A kind respiratory therapist gave me a lot of encouragement and actually prayed with me for healing. I truly believe all the prayers helped and they continue to help me keep getting better.

I know it’s a common saying that “Health is wealth,” but to be honest, I really didn’t think about it that much. Until my health was threatened, that is. I learned that you can lose your health so quickly and the simple things you took for granted such as breathing, getting up from bed and taking a few steps can easily be taken away from you.

Though I am not 100% where I was before getting sick in May, I am extremely grateful for getting my health back and not have to use an oxygen tank everywhere I go. I’m still not able to go for a run, but I’m thankful to be able to take walks again.

Also thankful for my family and the comforts of home.

And I want to thank you for visiting and spending time with me. May you be blessed today and always.

Happy Thanksgiving!
