One of my early blog posts back in June 2010 was “Insuring Against 3 Days Without Water” when I described how we decided to purchase The Big Berkey, one of the highest rated water purifying water systems. It can remove bacteria, pathogens harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, organic solvents, VOCs, detergents, cloudiness, silt, sediment, foul tastes and odors, along with reducing the presence of heavy metals in the water. I still love my Berkey purifier and that’s why I am delighted to welcome The Berkey Guy as one of Apartment Prepper’s Blog few sponsors.
As you know I only include sponsors that I know and trust. I like the Big Berkey so much we use it for our regular drinking water needs. I take tap water and purify it with the Berkey, as I occasionally hear reports of contaminants in the tap. This way I know for sure it’s safe and I never have to buy bottled water. If you are in the market for a great water purifier, please visit The Berkey Guy over at Directive21.com. In addition, they also carry other survival items such as seeds, books, grain mills, etc. The Berkey Guy also runs a blog and an online radio show on the Preparedness Radio Network.
And even better, they currently offer FREE SHIPPING on all their Berkey products. Check them out! Please click on the link on the right column, or just click here:
Can’t live long with out water 🙁
So true Shy Guy 🙂
I love my Berkey too! For the fun of it – and to wow guests – I often add food coloring to the top tank to show people how the blue (or green or yellow) water becomes clear after being run through the filter. The water tastes so much better than tap water which in our area, can be somewhat vile.

The Berkey taking out food coloring from water is pretty impressive. I’ll have to show this off to guests ones of these days! 🙂
The Berkey is an excellent choice with many filter element options for various water filtering. I have used one for 6 years – original British Berkey – and have used the normal standard candle filters and the upper grade filters that extract practically anything 99.9% – chemicals in tap waters, bacteria etc etc.
I have yet to use the ‘Black candle’ filters which they reckon eliminate viral carriers also – expensive, but when the crunch comes it may be worth it – we can exist without food for some time, but water is the essential element in all of us!

Hi Howard, I am glad to hear from a user of the original British Berkey! This just proves they have some of the best waterpurifiers around, here in US or UK. Thanks for the comment!
I have never seen a berkey water filter only the one i use brita
The Berkey water filter is available online, while Brita is available at most brick and mortar stores. Berkey takes out more impurities than the Brita.
