Just a quick post today as I wanted to share this news item that caught my attention.

Attempted shooting caught on camera

A few days ago, an elderly man was in his garage when he was accosted by a criminal. The victim ran across the street toward a neighbor’s house. The neighbor’s video camera caught the action – the robber actually tried to shoot the victim at close range several times. Luckily the gun jammed every time he pulled the trigger; the criminal then ran down the street and was picked up by his accomplice.

If you see the video, you’ll see the attacker was really intended to kill the man-he’s just a thief, he’s a potential killer. It was pure luck the gun jammed.

The suspect was arrested

A week or so later, we heard the news the criminal and his accomplice were caught in Arizona. They were victimizing people in their garages. If they spotted someone working or parking in their garage, they would immediately accost and rob them.

According to the report, the suspect was already on probation and violated that probation. He is being held on multiple charges such as possession of a weapon, robbery, assault, kidnapping, and fraud.

Should you feel safe in your own garage?

After seeing this report, I would say you must always be vigilant wherever you are. You should be able to feel secure in your own garage but in reality, criminals will take advantage of the situation. In this case, the man lived in a nice suburban neighborhood, they type of area people never expect anything like this to happen. If you let your guard down as you are working in your garage, or parking your car, you could be assaulted.

  • Always keep a look out on who is around when you pull in or pull out of your garage.
  • Observe the immediate area on who is approaching or close by.
  • If a stranger is nearby, never assume they can be trusted.
  • Don’t leave your garage door open.
  • Consider personal self-defense weapons and learn how to use them.

Unfortunately, the times we live in shows you must always be aware of your surroundings and protect yourself accordingly.
