It’s Looking Like a Bumpy Week Ahead

Just a quick post today as I share interesting news I’ve come across. This coming Thanksgiving week is shaping up to be a challenging one, depending on where you live.

Strong Cold Front and Rolling Blackouts are Possible in Texas and the Midwest

A strong cold front is expected to hit the US midwest and northwest next week, according to Accuweather. Heavy snow is forecasted for parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan, possibly parts of the Northeast.

Thanksgiving week is also one of the biggest travel seasons of the country and the storm could caused delays for travelers. This is also the same week that AAA projects travel to be nearly at pre-pandemic levels.

At the same time, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), a nonprofit corporation responsible for overseeing US’ power grid, reports that Texas as having the weakest power grid if extreme cold weather were to strike.

Power grids are expected to have sufficient supplies under normal operating conditions between the three months. But if unseasonably cold weather is observed, fossil fuel generators (powered by crude, coal, or natural gas) may experience shortages due to supply constraints.

Multiple protests planned

Now that the Kyle Rittenhouse “not guilty” verdict has been announced, there are reports that multiple protests are planned across the country.

Hopefully, they will be peaceful. To be on the safe side, avoid large cities and be prepared for riots and civil unrest.

Thanksgiving essentials are low

Because of the supply chain crisis, there are reports that Thanksgiving essentials are running out in some areas. Don’t wait until the last minute to buy your turkey and fixings. Of course we are also spending more on everything this Thanksgiving.

Just passing along info as I see it. This Thanksgiving is looking to be tougher than in previous years. As we always say around here, be prepared for what can happen. Of course we hope all turns out well.
