This week I am excited to offer our readers a chance to win these Survival Water Straws by Practical Survival.

What are these survival water straws?

These survival water straws are personal water filters you can carry with you. You can use them while camping, backpacking, hiking, biking, or keep them for emergencies in your car and home.

The package, currently priced at $39.88 includes five personal water filters. Each of the five filters in the pack removes 99.99999% of waterborne bacteria (including E. coli and salmonella), and 99.99999% of waterborne parasites (including giardia and cryptosporidium). They can remove the smallest microplastics found in the environment (down to 1 micron).

The filters weigh only two ounces and measure 8 inches long, so they are lightweight and very portable. Be prepared when camping, hiking, enjoying the outdoors, or when facing stressful situations such as natural disasters, national supply chain issues, accidents, or just about anything.

How long do these filters last?

Each filter can be used for purifying up to 1100 gallons, depending on how much sediment is in the water and how well you maintain it in between use. As a point of reference, an average person drinks around182.5 gallons of water per year, so these filters last a while.

How do you use the filters?

I tried using one of the filters based on the instructions from Amazon:

“How to use it:

  1. Remove the bottom cap of the filter and place it directly in the water you’d like to filter. Let the bottom part of the filter soak in the water for about 20 seconds (to prime the filter’s membranes).
  2. Remove the top cap of the filter and sip.
  3. Regularly blow air through the mouthpiece of the filter after each use, to keep it from clogging. Dry it thoroughly before placing the protective caps back on the filter, and storing it long term.

Use Gravity:

  1. To filter the water using a bottle: Find a bottle with threading that matches the thread on the bottom of the filter – the typical soda or water bottle will do (28mm threads).
  2. Fill the bottle with the water you’d like to filter and attach it to the bottom of the filter.
  3. Flip the water bottle upside down for the water to flow through. When the flow slows down, either squeeze the bottle or let air back into it.”

I found the filter to be very easy to use.

Water is essential for survival – a person can survive for just roughly three days without water. But water is also very heavy to carry around so it’s a good idea to a way to filter water wherever you are. These water straws are light and easy to keep with you in your car, office or home emergency kit in case of a water emergency.

I think these filters would make a great gift for anyone in your gift list who likes to spend time outdoors-hiking, biking, camping, or backpacking. Or you can give it to someone who wants to be more be prepared for emergencies or disasters. The filters would make a great addition to the car or home survival kit. The individual filters would also make great stocking stuffers. The item is reasonably priced, and currently has a coupon for 25% off (U.S. prices).
